Dr. Julie L. Wiernik isn’t just a clinical expert—she was forged in competition. Growing up in Fort Lauderdale, she competed on two state championship teams in volleyball and basketball before becoming a four-year varsity softball starter.
Her talent earned her an athletic scholarship to the University of North Florida (UNF), where she was a four-year starter at shortstop. At UNF, her excellence wasn’t confined to the field; she was a Rhodes Scholar nominee and a Nike Flag Football All-American quarterback, recognized as the best female QB in the country.
It was during this time that Dr. Wiernik experienced the “epiphany” of mental toughness. She realized that while physical talent gets you in the game, the mental game is what makes you a top performer. This realization sparked her vision to help athletes and performers reach their true potential.
Dr. Wiernik pursued this passion through a doctorate in clinical psychology, training across diverse settings in Miami and Fort Lauderdale—from forensic hospitals to university clinics. This vast experience allows her to address the human being, not just the athlete.
Today, she works with adolescents, adults, and professional performers, helping them navigate complex issues including injury coping, career transitions, and identity development. She is one of the few consultants worldwide with dual training in both clinical psychology and performance enhancement.

Her Approach
“Consulting with a performance psychologist simply means you are being coached and trained on how to think and cope more effectively. Seeking this training means you will do whatever it takes to improve as an athlete, performer, and person.”
Dr. Wiernik uses a positive psychology model, offering tailored regimens in an environment that is non-threatening, rewarding, and growth-oriented. She believes that ultimately, fun and relaxation bring out the best in people across all disciplines.
"All people can grow and improve. Many athletes wish they would have had mental skills training at an earlier age. Like physical skills, mental skills must be taught, trained, and honed on an ongoing basis for them to become instinctive."
Dr. Wiernik is on a mission to normalize mental health services. There is often a stigma associated with seeking support, but she views it as the ultimate competitive advantage. Treating the mind is no different than training the body in the weight room—it requires consistency, expert guidance, and a commitment to greatness.
